The first Bowie High School never had an indoor Basketball court or a proper Football stadium, but that didn't stop the pride and skill of the students. Everyone came to their games from youngsters all the way to senior citizens all wearing Bowie's Blue and White.
Two years after Bowie's first graduates received their diplomas they won District champions for Football. Also in 1949 Bowie won State champions in Baseball and forth in state in Basketball. Coach Nolan Richardson started his coaching career at Bowie High School. Javier Montes, 1948 graduate went on to study at Texas Western College and set the state record of 4min 25sec at the mile run while at Bowie. He later went to the 1952 Olympics in Helenski, Finland. |
